Bob Hamilton is a musician living in Portland Maine. He is a professional session guitarist and has worked with hundreds of bands. He received formal training at the University of Southern Maine School of Music and Cal State University Los Angeles. His musical interests include jazz and folk, funk and soul, bluegrass, banjo, and classical guitar. He teaches guitar and banjo independently to both kids and adults. Bob played extensively in the US for over 10 years in all types of venues (casinos, bars, barns, water parks, festivals, boats, concert halls, living rooms, etc). He draws on more than a decade of experience in multiple genres, has played with 1000’s of musicians, and has extensive knowledge of  countless songs.

Bob has been involved with music for 25 years, and studied guitar for 15 years. He has played regularly in Portland, Maine, Los Angeles, New York, and Boston. Bob originally played percussion prior to playing the guitar. He started playing guitar at the age of 14 and pursued it relentlessly. He started teaching lessons at the age of 17 and has always enjoyed sharing what he knows. Bob enjoys working with both advanced and beginning instrumentalists and helping them get to the next level. He ran a successful independent guitar studio in Portland, Maine, teaching as many as 35 lessons a week. He taught Banjo at Buckdancer’s Choice School of Music from 2007-2009. He released an independent album with Hamilton County of original bluegrass style compositions which received great reviews. In 2009 he won 2^nd place at the New England Banjo Picking Championships. He played banjo on the 2009 Gypsy Tailwind Release Grace and enjoys playing electric guitar with Lyle Divinsky and Model Airplane on the East Coast of the US when schedules permit. Bob has successfully managed and promoted several events in the musical community, including weekly open mics and jazz jam sessions. He is a regular at bluegrass festivals in both Europe and the US, and can often be found jamming backstage or checking out the flatpicking contests.

Flexibility and diversity are key elements to Bob’s attitude and musical style. In 2006 alone he performed over 200 gigs with 41 different acts. Bob is an attractive sideman, backup musician, and collaborator, but also an experienced band leader and instrumental front man.
